Guide / How to move out on your own

move

There will be a time in your life where you decide to fly the coop and go out into the world as an independent member of society.

Prepare, Plan, Practice

Make sure you have enough money saved up to support yourself. Take into consideration fees that come with renting/owning a home such as bond, rent, renter’s insurance, bills (utility, gas, water and electricity), food and transport.

Consider the costs of the move such as removalist fees/hiring a moving truck, connection fees (internet, gas, electricity), parking permits, furniture and furnishings.

Set yourself up for success by setting out a monthly budget.

Keeping a house clean is hard work

I was not expecting that! The biggest shock for me when I moved out of home was the household work that came with living in my own place.

Save yourself a world of troubles and clean as you go. Make sure you keep on top of chores like laundry, dishes and vacuuming.

Always have a backup

Believe me the day will come when you go to leave the house, the front door will close and you’ll get that sinking feeling remembering your keys are now locked inside. Breaking and entering your own house isn’t ideal so we highly recommend keeping a spare key somewhere safe for times like these.
